Isadora Lilly- Wildfires Ravaging the State of California
Northern and Southern California have recently been touched with highly destructive wildfires, forcing hundreds of thousands of people to vacate the area, especially as the death toll rises to 42, with over 200 people still missing, and therefore making history as the deadliest wildfires to occur in all of California's history. This Monday night, Butte County Sheriff Kory Honea addressed the fatal nature of the wildfires and issues surrounding those still missing and injured, stating that they will continue to respond to incidents relating to the most recent fire, the Camp Fire.
This Monday night, Trump also continued to fuel his Twitter addiction by sharing his approval of an expedited request for a Major Disaster Declaration for the State of California, only two days after blaming California's recent wildfires to "a gross mismanagement of the forests", threatening to cut Federal aid to California if the issue was not corrected. In this respect I find it more than amusing that Trump's latest post regarding the Major Disaster Declaration seems to have his whole hearted support, with Trump responding to the population's suffering, claiming, "I am with you all the way." How sensitive.
This environmental disaster reminds me of the horrific dust bowls of the "Dirty Thirties", as the severe dust storms greatly affected the lives of many in personal, economic, and agricultural aspects. These storms were due to overuse of land as well as drought, creating dry conditions similar to the current conditions in California. At first considered "freaks of nature", these dust storms went on to become commonplace, as many environmental experts warn of California wildfires, especially among conditions of drought, heat and aridity, and climate change.

This recent fire has had the mark of a looming disaster soon to be felt everywhere, just like the dust bowl. Trump’s remarks regarding the whole situation occurring in California have a certain dismissive sound to it, as if this is not the disaster it should be treated like.
