Ethiopia Approves First Female President- Mia Murphy
On November 2, 2018 Ethiopian lawmakers approved Meaza Ashenafi as the first female Supreme Court president. Before her new title she was a prominent law practitioner in Ethiopia. She has been credited with founding the popular Ethiopian Woman Lawyers Association, and worked with the U.N. to establish an all female bank. There has also been a Cabinet of women which was approved by Ethiopian lawmakers; the group also included the first women defense minister. Overall Meaza Ashenafi had influenced many women to push for roles that they don’t usually get. Women getting big roles in society is still an issue still after everything we’ve done to stop gender roles. Yes, over the years this problem in society has improved there is still room for growth.
