Wildfires continue to rage in California and the death toll is currently at 31. In Northern California the Camp Fire still remains only 25% contained, burning over 177 square miles. There are over 200 people currently unaccounted for in the Camp Fire area, and almost 7,000 buildings have been destroyed.
In the 1930s, a phenomenon known as the dust bowl caused by over-exerting farmland plagued the prairies in the US. It made people homes unlivable and left miles of unattended, empty land. Both these ever-intensifying wildfires and the dust bowl were environmental results at least partially due to human industries. In the 30s it was farming methods that led to catastrophe and today it’s the release of greenhouse gases that are causing temperatures to rise, accompanied by natural disasters.
Emma Burkey: I sincerely hope that the fires will be contained very soon because losing 31 people is already tragic and I don't want to imagine that number rising. America does not need another natural disaster, but unfortunately we have another one on our hands.
