Teachers and students have gathered to speak out for better education funds and an increase in wages. Despite recent Oklahoma legislation that includes a pay raise and higher education funding, teachers are still fighting for stronger adjustments. People in Oklahoma and Kentucky are marching to their state capitols to demand needed legislation.
Just like educators and their students are joining together, the civil rights movement brought people of color together for a unified cause. During the civil rights movement, laws were put in place but they kept pushing towards their concrete mission. Just like the loud voice of the people brought progress, I have no doubt that the voice of these educators will go unheard.
I hope this movement can influence teachers in other states so the cause can grow. I know I’m not a teacher but I think that it’s a well known fact that they don’t get paid enough for what they do. Not all teachers are exactly dedicated to their profession, but those who are, are fighting for future generations. I believe education is a necessity no matter what/who you aspire to be. Students, teachers, and schools all need support to grow.
