While most drugs designed for combatting cancer is targeted towards specific organs or locations in the body, a first-of-its-kind drug, Larcotrectinib, designed to target a fused gene in many types of cancer was effective in 93% of pediatric patients tested. It is the first cancer drug to receive FDA breakthrough therapy designation for patients with a specified fusion of genes in cancer cells.
