Malaria parasites present in 23% of donor blood in some African countries, study suggests
One and four blood banks in different areas in Africa have found malaria parasites in the blood. Across all the data and percentages there was a huge range of positive tests. Ranging from 0% to 74%. Malaria is one of the main infections that is passed through blood transfers in these areas in Africa. These adults that have tested positive have almost become immune to the parasite.
This is so scary. Blood transfusions are lifesaving procedures, and with this dangerous parasite in the blood it isn't so lifesaving. I hope the doctors can find a way to regulate the percentages. We would never want to put anyone in in needed pain. This is something that should be able to be fixed. I hope they come together and make it happen for the safety of the patients.
