Violet Wiedemer- President Trump challenges the 14th amendment

Most recently, President Trump has vowed to destroy the 14th amendment, which protects the rights and citizenship of those born on American soil, but not of "American" parents. He called the amendment "ridiculous" and vowed to bring it down.

The amendment was first put in place to protect the rights of the children of freed slaves, guaranteeing their citizenship. If Trump somehow manages to accomplish this, he is overstepping Presidential limits within the constitution, and borders on tyrannical.

  1. This potential executive act violates a deeply American ideal of a melting pot, and taking away such an integral right makes this country and its government seem cold and heartless. I can't think of a possible explanation for wanting to put this act in place that isn't blatantly racist on Trump's part.

  2. Trump thinks he’s can rule like a King and that no rules apply to him, how dare he threaten a fundamental part of our country’s ideals.

  3. These early amendments have been in place in our country for centuries, and they are apart of our history. The diversity of our country is the face of this nation. Trump should not be able to change history and get rid of an amendment that we have had for so long and represents our country. Lily Philips
