Elle Grinnell- Megyn Kelly's "blackface" comment shows diversity isn't enough

The NBC host Megyn Kelly made an on air comment defending blackface costumes, these comments have been widespread and continued to earn outrage around the country. This incident shows that even with organizations with very diverse teams ignorance is still a large widespread issue. The issue is you not only need teams that are diverse but also teams that are inclusive of everybody. Someone then states that diversity is about representation while inclusion is about engagement. Many people think that they are ok or promote diversity, but then they skim right over peoples background which makes it seem very superficial. Kelly did apologize for her mistake claiming that she understands the value on being sensitive to our history on rave and ethnicity. Instead of going on air from the beginning Kelly could've talked to her people in the work place but instead she made comments that suggested that old white misrepresentation and exploitation of black cultures which is centuries old suddenly becomes excusable in 2018.
All though this situation is no where close to the scenario, a few years ago it was a big issue that college kids were wearing black face as their Halloween costumes. Not only is that very inappropriate but it is also very ignorant and rude. Many people do not know the story behind black face nor do many care, and personally I think some people need to be taught on the subject. People need to start considering others and the back bone of things before they make it into all fun and games.

  2. Yeah, people should not be defending black face. It's frustrating how people like this are ignorant of the harm they cause.

  3. Can Megyn Kelly just be quiet when it comes to any opinion she has about black people. I mean it's so annoying. What does she gain?
