Nadia Blanton-Obama Shortens Sentences for 79 Federal Prisoners

Summary: President Obama has just recently granted shorter sentences to an amount of about a little over federal prisoners. These were nonviolent drug offenders who would have been charged with shorter sentences if they were to commit the same offenses today. The Obama administration has shortened the prison time for more people than the previous 11 presidents combined.

Evaluation: This article brings into light the issue of drugs itself. There has somewhat been a loosening on the use of drugs in these previous years. However, drugs that are legal are just as, if not more, dangerous than the ones that are not. Statistics show that the crack down on drug crimes and the drug prevention programs , a weak attempt to end drug use in youths, have been ineffective in decreasing the amount on illegal drug users.
