Kobe Williams (1st Period) - Suicide Prevention Hotlines Surge Post-Election

It has been brought to light how after the election we've recently had, many Suicide hotlines have just surged out of nowhere. It was said that between 1 and 2 a.m. alone, the national network fielded 660 calls. Workers there said that the hotlines haven't surged like this since September 11, 2001 and since famous comedian/actor, Robin Williams, died. The incident caused quite a shock in many of the people working in this field. Adding more paranoia and anxiety about the coming future of the country.

I understand everyone's reasons for either being extremely upset or happy about this past election. But I'm also worried about how everyone's mindsets and perceptions of hope changed because of it. Especially since so many people called the suicide hotline immediately afterwards. I'm just curious as to everyone's motives for calling. This incident, as stated earlier, definitely makes me think of the aftermath of 9/11. People were scared, hurt, and beyond confused, just like now. But I believe, no matter how hard it may seem, everyone needs to just stick together and stay hopeful.

  1. I have heard about this issue as well and it speaks volumes about our new president and how people feel about him.

  2. I recall seeing 9/11 - 11/9 the most devastating days in America and increase in calls to the suicide crisis line. I never want to undermine anyone feels, but mental and social care providers did state this is a real issue that many have to work through. For those who need help to move forward they should get it. I just hope those less serious don't 'tie up' a line just overacting.

  3. If this many people feel this way at this time, then it's obvious that we're not exaggerating when we say that many peoples' lives are in danger. They know that this man has the power and the popularity to kill and ruin, it just depends on if we let him or not.

  4. Many people have been saying people are over exaggerating but what they don't see is this. How many people are actually in danger.

  5. I'm astonished about this fact, though I can see why this happened. It is extreme that the number of calls were compared to the number the day of 9/11. This should be an eyeopener for our nation, that just the election of Trump caused so many to turn to suicide.
