Fire at mosque where Pulse nightclub shooter worshiped ruled out as arson by Caitlin King

On Sunday, September 11th, a fire started at the Islamic Center of Fort Pierce, where the Pulse nightclub shooter Omar Mateen previously worshiped. The fire injured no one but authorities have confirmed that the cause of this outbreak was arson. They are looking for a white or hispanic male who drives a harley and wears a cap. Not only was this fire started on September 11th, a very sad day in american history, but also on the Muslim holiday Eid al-Adha. Firefighters were able to put out the fire by 5 am on monday morning. Frequent worshipers of the mosque claim that it's just like any other mosque, friendly and simple with a peaceful message.

This article was written on Monday, September 12th by Joe Sutton and Madison Park. This article is very current considering it was written only 7 hours ago. I feel like this captures the somewhat American spirit of "An eye for an eye." Sadly, sometimes we poke the wrong persons eye. This article was written to tell of the tragedy that happened yesterday and to spread awareness of the arsonist and hopefully catch the criminal.

  1. I agree that the American attitude of "an eye for an eye" (which is not originally American, but in recent times it has been a major part of motivation) can be rather problematic and harmful. Islamophobia is not okay!!! If an entire religion were responsible for the actions of a small number, most religions would be irredeemable!!! If more people tried not to kill people in retaliation, far fewer people would die or be injured.

  2. I really liked how you said "sometimes we poke the wrong persons eye". The Pulse Nightclub shooting was an extremely wretched and heinous occurrence, but that does not give a person the right to hurt others on the criminal's behalf. That mosque was a peaceful place and had nothing to do with the shooting.
