Utah and Colorado trying to raise smoking age - Amber Ward P5

Summary: In Utah and Colorado, lawmakers are working towards raising the legal cigarette smoking age from 18 to 21 years old. The goal of this is to drop the smoking rate, even though these two states have some of the lowest smoking rates in the United states. The lawmakers say that even if they aren't able to prevent the smoking all together, at least delaying smoking could have a great effect on the development of brains and overall health.

Analysis: Honestly I don't have a problem with this at all because I believe that cigarettes should be banned altogether, considering how much damage they can do the body. I just think its really ironic that the first state to legalize the recreational sale and use of marijuana, Colorado, has such a problem with cigarette smoking.

  1. Yeah I would agree with you on how Colorado sells marijuana, but they want to ban cigarettes. That is just ridiculous to me. But yes cigarettes should be banned because they cause horrible damage to your body.

  2. I agree that this is ironic. People seem to think that marijuana is not harmful to their bodies, but it really hasn't been tested enough for people to know for sure. But everyone knows for a fact that cigarettes are extremely harmful.

  3. That's such a good point. I agree that people don't always think about the effects of marijuana on your body as much as they do cigarettes' effect. They are both not beneficial...but yeah I agree that raising the smoking age is a good idea because even though it doesn't completely prevent smoking overall, maybe it will help.
