smartphones 'causing mental health problems in two-year-olds'-Daviah Harrison
This article was written by Olivia Petter on November 4, 2018. New research has shown that the damage in spending hours on smartphones and tablet devices might start in users as young as two years old. One hour of screen time can make children less curious, lower their self control, and lower emotional stability ,which can lead to an increased risk of anxiety and depression. This study also found that nursery school children who used screens frequently were twice as likely to lose their temper and "half of mental health problems develop by adolescence".They really want parents and teachers to reduce the time that their children spend online and some people advise children to limit the time spent online to 2 hours.
I believe this was written to warn people about the dangers of allowing their child to be online for a long amount of time in a young age. Nowadays, I see a lot of children glued to their tablets at a young age and before reading this article I was a little worried for them but now that I know how it can affect the health of a child, I am even more worried. In the 1900s, children didn't have T.V. or the internet so they played games like tag, hide and seek, marbles, hopscotch, and etc. I am not saying that kids don't do this now but I am almost positive that the newer generation of kids will not know much about those activities. This can be a hard subject to bring up to parents since no one wants to be told how to raise their child, but if you know someone who is letting their child use the internet a bit too much, try to tell them in the nicest way possible that it isn't healthy for their child to depend on their devices for entertainment.
