Leslie Vasquez- Beto 2020 Calls Multiply Among Democrats

During the midterms on Tuesday, Beto O'Rourke lost to Ted Cruz for the Senate. However, Beto gained an unprecedented amount of support across Texas, and even the country. For the first time in 25 years, Texas almost had a Democratic win, even though there is a strong Republican presence in the state. This has brought up the question; with all the support Beto has gained, could he run for president in 2020? Although Beto himself hasn't addressed the claim, his supporters definitely want him to run. They believe he has the leadership and determination to lead this country.

A lot of people have compared Beto's loss to Abraham Lincoln's in 1858, also for the Senate. After his loss, he ran for president and won in the election of 1860. Although the circumstances of that time were very different to the circumstances of today, they could both say the same thing; history is able to repeat itself and Beto could possibly win the 2020 presidential election if he chooses to run. However, President Trump does have a vast amount of support of so much of the country, so Beto might fall a little short. Even so, Beto's determination to fight for this country and the values he holds has caught the eyes of many, and a Beto 2020 presidential campaign doesn't seem so far-fetched at this point.

  1. I am a huge Beto O'Rourke fan and the idea of a ticket with his name on it tickles my family and I. We are huge supporters and I think this would be a great move for his political career. My only question is who would be his running mate? A family discussion over this weekend threw around one of the Castro brothers as a possible vice. Imagine that, a straight Texas ticket!

  2. I am interested to see the candidates for the upcoming 2020 Presidential election. I think this would be wonderful if Beto ran for president. I also thought the midterm election was a monumental step for Texas. Even if Beto O'Rourke lost, I am glad to see that the percentage of votes were so close at 48.3% to 50.9%. As a mainly red state, this was important to see a change in not only Texas but the rest of the country after the last couple of years of our government. Lily Philips

  3. My family and I are actually really big supporters of Beto O'Rourke and the idea of having him as president is just amazing. He may have lost the midterm elections but for his first time running he sure did get a lot of support.I liked that you compared this current situation with Abraham Lincoln's experience in the past because there very much alike. -Lesly Marquez

  4. The historical connection you made is very interesting, and considering how close the votes were in the recent election for Senate, I think that Beto would certainly have support if he were to run for president, much like the support Lincoln gained during the Lincoln-Douglas debates.
