Fiji Election on November 14-- By Diya Ghayal

Summary: On November 14, Wednesday, 2018, Fiji is to have it's election, however citizens are frightened of the possibility of a coup. A coup is a sudden and violent seizure of power from the government. The last coup that occurred in Fiji was in 2006, and was led by Frank Bainimarama. As citizens make their decisions on voting, they are becoming more and more paranoid as to what could happen if the election results don't please certain individuals. However the military, police officers, and other groups of people have claimed that they will respect whatever poll outcome is brought upon them.

I have heard of the word, "coup" several times, and have seen it in textbooks, but I have never heard of it happening in the present world. This article could be related to the coup that occurred in Fiji, 12 years ago, which is what led to their violent/coup-like reputation. This article was written for people around the world, in order to inform us about the shift of power that is about to happen in Fiji. This information lets us know about the violent elections that take place around the world, and how Fiji's citizens are affected by this. This gives us a real world example of what a coup is, why it happens, and its' consequences/outcomes.
