Fire at Orlando gunman's mosque ruled arson, authorities say
A fire set at the mosque where the Pulse nightclub shooter prayed was deliberately set according to officials. Luckily, no one was inside when the arsonist set fire to the place of worship. Authorities and officials caught the perpetrator on surveillance cameras outside the mosque showing a white male carrying a paper bag and a liquid. Shown with a flash on the screen, the officers believe this is how the flame was ignited. After the man was seen running from the scene. The officials are worried because not only did this occur in a place of worship, but on an anniversary of the terrorist attack on the twin towers in 2001 (9/11). Many are now looking for the man responsible for the crime. The church struggles to comprehend why anyone would set fire to suck a beautiful place to spend one's time and hope to see the criminal brought to justice.
This article was written by Joe Sutton and Madison Park, journalists for CNN. By the context of the article, the authors seem to side with the mosque and its leaders and morals in this situation. This article was written Monday, September 12, one day after the 15th anniversary of the terrorist attack 9/11. Because this event occurred so close to the tragic day, the authors are probably heavily siding with the mosque because although it wasn't wide/national scale, the arson committed is a form of terrorism. This article seems to be written to warn readers of the tragic occurrence of arson but also to show that terrorism can be displayed even in small ways. The article was written to convey the story of the fire at the mosque and also distribute knowledge of the arsonist and background knowledge on the mosque. This article is important because it teaches people of the events that occurred Sunday, September 11 and signifies that terrorism is still very much alive even in small local scales. This article can be connected to the terrorist attack on the twin towers, the pentagon, and the White House because of the face of terror it put into its victims. Although the arson was small, it attacked a religious group and its believers and followers like how ISIS attacked America because it did not believe in its religious beliefs and practices.
