Nowadays, many Americans support the LGBT community. They believed they should be treated like regular citizens and shouldn't be attacked by non-supportive people. The recent issue with gender-specific bathrooms has caused quite a stir, not only in the LGBT community but others as well. Americans believe that LGBT members shouldn't be oppressed because of their sexual orientation. It has become a hot topic specifically for GOP Presidential candidates due to personal beliefs. A poll found that it would be more likely of a candidate to be punished by voters for not supporting same-sex marriage. Another poll found that "religious freedom" laws that allowed owners to deny customers because of the owner's personal beliefs was highly opposed by voters. Other polls were taken relating to the belief that discrimination occurs among African-Americans, LGBT members and immigrants. Democrat representatives had a high belief that discrimination still occurs in society, jobs, and housing, while Republican representatives beliefs were half the quantity of Democrats. Clinton has high popularity in minority groups while Trump appeals mostly to White Protestants.

It is refreshing to that the younger audience or generation is becoming more accepting of people who are different from themselves. Of course there many from the older generation as well, but I think we can all agree we have progressed a lot over the years(and still have along way to go).
ReplyDeleteI really think this is a very touchy subject but that you came a cross in a way that did not make you feel as if there was only one opinion.
ReplyDeleteIt's interesting to see that a lot of people disagree with it to where they are restricting dressing rooms yet if a politician doesn't support it it'll cost them a lot of votes. This issue seems very black and white, I'm curious as to if there will be newer regulations or laws placed on discrimination.
