Sydney Bridgeforth - Current Floods Brings Similar Problem as Katrina to Louisiana

Current Floods Brings Similiar Problem as Katrina to Louisiana

Summary:
There has been a lot negative press for President Obama in regards to the current floods in the State of Louisiana, but not as much as former President Bush received during Hurricane Katrina.  While having a death toll of any number is tragic, here are the comparisons of the two.  The death toll for the current event for the State of Louisiana was reported as 13 and for Hurricane Katrina 1,833.  Floods have been seen in the same areas of the state causing similar damage to homes that were seen in years past.  The media attention and coverage were about the same......the lack thereof for both events and then only showing the most devestation and the residents urging more solidarity and attention from each president.

Analysis:
Though both events have been horrible for the State of Louisiana and its people, once Federal Aid and Assistance is provided, no matter how much media coverage or attention your President brings to the matter, people have to come to reality to rebuild and reestablish their lives.  Bringing everything to social media or having politicians make a big political move at the expense of cost of others in dire need is not humane.  If we want to take matters like this to social media or for media coverage, it should be to collect and bring relative items of need to the families and communities.

  1. I agree with this because complaining about a problem only gets you so far...what the community needs to be doing is taking matters in to their own hands and stop placing blame.

  2. I agree that people should express their concerns for the subject matter, but then actually help to solve the problem. In this case, helping other people rebuild their communities. Blaming other people won't solve the problem.

  3. I agree people need to try to take things into their own hands and try to find a way to solve this.

  4. I think that every president gets a large amount of criticism, especially during hard times. Sometimes the complaints can guide the action in the right direction, but I hope that everyone's intentions are to help the people hurt by the disaster, instead of finding another reason to direct hate towards a public figure.

  5. Complaining about a problem is not going to fix it. I hope they soon realize they need to start making a change as soon as possible. -Josie Guthrey
