Mollie Hamman- Emigration from Libya

Summary- Emigrants are leaving Libya on boats to live a better life elsewhere.
Analyze- Women, children and the weak are being pushed out of Central Africa, across the Sahara Dessert, and into Libya because of relative overpopulation and the belief by fundamentalists and local tribesmen that the weak are not worthy. Unseaworthy boats are being boarded by refugees that may result in a better life on the other side.
Synthesis- This movement of people is like the slave trade. People are living in terrible conditions and will give anything to leave their situation. Like in the slave trade, they are getting onto tightly packed boats with an unlikeliness of reaching their destination safely.

  1. It's very interesting and sad that people in the 21st century still have to do what people did centuries ago. To risk your life for a better one seems desperate but necessary in those countries.

  2. We really ignore the terrible things going on in Africa with all of the political noise. It is important that we keep working towards helping Africa because their quality of living is so low. These people need all of the help they can get, and often, they get overlooked.
