Emily Anderson - The Gender Pay Gap

http://money.cnn.com/2016/04/12/pf/gender-pay-gap-equal-pay-day/index.html

CNN wrote an article in April about the gender pay gap. The gender pay gap is the difference in salary from men to women. Women only receive approximately $0.79 cents for every $1.00 a man makes. Most women are being payed less for the same amount of work as men. This "pay gap" really adds up to a huge salary difference at the end of the year. Other articles related to this topic have shown the gap is much smaller when you compare two people with the same job and similar circumstances. Nonetheless, the gap is still there. Even in highly educated careers, the price gap lives on between men and women. Only on rare occasions are the woman paid more than her male counterpart. This subject is very important for people to have knowledge of due to the fact that women's rights is still clearly a thing people are fighting for. This article is relevant to our daily lives because it affects many people's careers. I feel as though this article is directed towards upcoming youth who will be in the work place because soon it is their own problem they must work to fix. This article relates to women's equality and specific historical events that changed women's status in society. For example, women could not own land until well after the English settled in America. In addition, before the 19th amendment, women did not even have the ability to vote. They were seen as having less power than men. Then finally in August of 1920, women were allowed the right that men had already obtained which was to vote. Women's statuses in society are still not completely equal to men's today, but women are fighting to obtain the same rights as men just like in the 1920's.

  1. This is so true and its still a big issue after decades and decades of change. Some people get mad at feminists because 'women are already equal to men' but, clearly not, the difference between men and women is still happening. There needs to be more people joining the cause of equal rights not just towards women but, people with different sexual preference, skin color, and even language.
