Sweden Increase Fleet in Precaution to Russia - Addison Norman pd 2

Last October the Swedish government detected a submarine off the countries coast. After investigation officials believed the submarine belonged to the Russian military. Sweden is frightened by this especially with the current actions of Russia over Ukraine. Also, Russia has recently shown signs of tension with Denmark (who Sweden is an alliance with) because the country has joined NATO. In precaution the Swedish Navy will be adding two new submarines to its naval fleet, and has asked government to increase its spending on the military.
Before World War I and II European nations all began to heavily militarize to compete with neighboring countries. In World War II when Germany then invaded Poland other countries declared war on Germany sparking a chain reaction through alliances. The actions of Russia with countries like Ukraine, and Russia's neighbors building up their military closely resembles what happened to spark World War II.

  1. Wow! What makes Sweden think that Russia would target them? It will be interesting to see if any action from Russia comes from this.. Hopefully if anything happens, Sweden will be able to readily guard themselves from attack.
