March Madness is Complete Madness by Mackenzie McGregor

Now into the month of March only one thing lies on the minds of avid college basketball fans- NCAA March Madness. This tournament contains 64 teams and total, dwindling down to the Final Four, and then finally reaching the championship game. It is easy to get caught in the hype of the tournament and not realize the games have a greater effect than simply entertainment and athletic prestige for a year. These games cause a spike in the sale of pizza and desserts, vasectomies (look it up if you do not know what this is), HDTV,and unproductive workers in certain environments. These brackets even become somewhat overwhelming- my old biology teacher would give the students extra credit for students that created a bracket and the teams that won accordingly. These effects demonstrate how popular sports have become in our society.
