California Cliff Collapse Kills One and Injures Another - Hannah Kalan 6th Period

This Saturday at the Bear Valley Trail to Arch Rock, a portion of the cliff collapsed, resulting in the death of one 58 year old and the injury of her hiking companion. Notices were posted around the trail as of Thursday, when the National Park Service was notified of a fissure that appeared in the rock's structure. However, the two hikers were standing near enough to the fissure that when it collapsed, they fell a rough 70 feet into the rubble.

This goes to show just how important it is for the NPS to be updated on a park's geography. The signs were posted only a few days before the collapse, and had they not, more people may have been injured or killed as were the two of the incident. Due to which, the trail was closed to prevent further injury to hikers.

  1. It is so sad to hear. The National Parks first started under Teddy Roosevelt to preserve natural beauty.
