Senate Approves Open Carry in Texas/ Madeline Boreham/ 4th period

The Texas senate gave the final approval of the Open Carry Bill, which would make it legal for people with concealed handgun licenses to now carry their gun on them in public using a holster.
Being known for it's gun friendly reputation; Texas has the most federal firearm license holders in the country.  Texas has allowed the public display of guns such as rifles and shotguns. Open carry advocate have always held rallies at places like the Alamo and the Capitol. This would be the first time in 140 years since open carry has been legal. The original point of banning open carry  was during the civil war era where the goal was to disarm the Confederate soldiers and freed slaves.

The passing of this bill sets me on edge. The whole point of banning open carry in the first place was to put an end to violence. In todays society there is already a big enough issue with guns and the destruction they cause.  This will definitely increase the risk of violence in Texas. It will be a natural internist for the owner of the gun to reach for it when they are scared or angry. It only takes a second to make a mistake and by now putting a weapon as a choice for people to have on them in daily life will only make the mistake worse. I do not think this is a good idea at all, but if history has taught us anything its that no changes will be made until there has been an horrific incident and someone looses their life.

  1. Unfortunately, most of the people that fought so hard for this bill won't fight as hard for other important things like marriage equality.

  2. I agree with Jack. People are working so hard to promote something that will only cause more violence, and give a bigger chance of violence as well, rather than allowing love, or something peaceful.
