Fire in Brookline Kills 7 Children by Megan Darlington

Early in the morning right after midnight, a neighbor hear a scream of "mommy help me!" He looked out his window and saw a house burning. Inside this house lived a family with eight children and a mother at home that night. As the house was going in flames, the mother and a 14 year old daughter jumped out of the second floor window down to the ground, however, the other 7 children did not make it out of the house. A fire squandering arrived and said one child was dead on sight, but the other 6 were taken to the hospital for treatment, but did not make it. This family was observing sabbath and had the hot plate on which over heat and caused the deadly house fire.
This event is heart wrenching. To have 7 children die is so tragic. The father was out of town and still hadn't received the news. With the family observing their Jewish tradition, not having basic electronics really was an awful thing. This would relate to earlier times before modern electronics that we have now. If they had a smoke alarm, maybe this could have been prevented. I have this family in my prayers for a good emotional recovery.

  1. I would hate to be the one to break the news to dad.

  2. It's awful that death resulted from a family just wanting to practice religion. I agree with you in saying how more modern technology could have prevented the fire, but hopefully a lesson was learned from this.
