The Making of the ‘Three Strikes’ Laws

Summary: In the early 1990's, California was drowned in crime and in one sad situation an 18 year old girl got shot in the head. After this tragedy happen, her father created the Three Strikes Law in where if a convict has committed three violent acts they get 25 to life. This didn't get as much attention until another tragedy happened where a little girl was kidnapped and was found dead in a field. The man who did it was a felon who had a long rap sheet and was out on bail on another kidnapping charge. After this, "the three strikes your out" was voted on and was made into a law. This is the making of the Three Strikes Law.

Analysis: I think that this is a very good law, but it came at terrible price. This law will hopefully help prevent cases like this in the future.

  1. That is very sad that that had to happen for the law to be accepted. It is a very important law to have set in place though - Lauren Hamm 2nd period
