Bogus sign language interpreter at Mandela memorial was in group that burned men to death
Last week, at Nelson Mandela's memorial, it was discovered that the man who was signing right next to many important figures, like Obama, was an impostor. Many in the deaf community became confused when his signs meant absolutely nothing. This provoked many investigations into who this man was. It has now been discovered that he was in a group that killed two men for possessing a television. He never stood trial for these charges like the other men because he was claimed as mentally unstable. He spent about one year in a mental institution. He was never a sign language interpreter and has no training. He is now fleeing the government searching for him.
This was really scary to read. Usually many precautions are taken for anybody even somewhat close to the president to ensure safety. It seems in case, some of these were skipped. Luckily, nothing went wrong but as this article proves t easily could have. I think they need to do more thorough background checks.
