Teens break into lavish mansion, party, leave with stuffed leopard - Camille Vigil

This week in Los Angeles, California, police have announce the arrests that are being faced by a multitude of teenagers who broke into a mansion while its owner was out of the country, and throwing an party that got way out of hand. The LA mansion was in the process of being sold on the night the teens broke, and was unoccupied while its owner, Nick Radoi. Police say the teen who hosted the party probably jumped the fence in order to gain entry to the home, then charged a fee for people to enter the party. The home owner was known for inviting others to his home and hosting parties often, so the party raised no suspicion with neighbors. In addition, according to one neighbor, homes in that area tend to have lots of acreage so the homes are fairly distanced from one another, so many of them had no idea the party even happened. The teens completely trashed the home, leaving about $1 million in damages and stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars of the owner's belongings. These items included a taxidermy snow leopard, a species that is now extinct, valued at $250,000, medieval masks, and several Versace suits. Police found out about this party through social media, after many of the kids posted pictures on twitter of them in the home and with some of the items stolen. This week, three 18-year-olds and 13 minors were arrested for various counts of burglary, grand theft, and trespassing.
This story was very reminiscent of another story from a couple months ago, in which a group of teenagers broke into a former football players mansion while he was away and threw a party resulting in about 250,000 dollars in damage, if I remember correctly. I think this partying is completely and absolutely awful. Just awful. These kids have no moral or respect for anything. I think this can largely be attributed to the faults of their parents, because we learn respect and morals mainly from our parents, whether we realize it or not. Regardless, bad parenting is no excuse for this kind of conduct. These kids don't realize that their actions affect others, in this case, a homeowner who never expected to return home to something like this.

  1. This is terrible! To hear of teens that think they are so entitled as to assume they are welcome to anything and everything makes me really angry. When I watched The Bling Ring when it came out a few months ago all I could think of as I watched it was, "How can they think this is ok?" Crazy to think that that and this story were both true. Crazy.

  2. Kids are crazy. It's one thing to participate in the typical high school stupid choices but to destroy someone else's property is very wrong.
