It was recently reported that Russia had run a test to see if it's internet could function separately from the "World Wide" Web, most likely in the event of a large-scale conflict that would knock out servers in various countries, or if Western sanctions would go so far as to cut off connection. From this point it was only speculated that Russia might be preparing to further restrict the flow of information and take a route much like China in terms of censorship. Russian authorities denied that any test took place.
Well, this is certainly interesting, especially given Russia's past with the Internet. The Kremlin never intended for Russian citizens to have access to the Internet, much like the first copy machines invented that were kept away from the public for decades. I don't think they would go as far as China when it comes to the "information control" scene, but it's important to keep tabs on even small events like these, because experts have compared our current geopolitical tension to the Cold War. (Such as all these muscle-flexing military drills and airspace violations.)
