Virginia Shooting Plot Foiled // Olivia Gillis P3

Virginia police were able to stop a planned school shooting attack involving two Riverbend High School students. The two (15 and 17-year-old) students from the school were planning to kill students and faculty by phoning in a bomb threat and shooting people as they exited the school. It all began on October 12, when the 17-year-old was arrested for threatening violence via social media. This led to the investigation of the 15-year old who was involved in the planning of the attack, and later arrested as well. After both of the students' homes were searched and multiple firearms for the planned attack were found, both students were charged with conspiracy to commit murder. The timing of the plot is still unknown but police say there was no immediate threat.
I think it's great that police were able to stop this attack before it became a different story. If the student's plan had actually gone through, hundreds of innocent students and adults' lives would've been taken. The number of school shootings has gone up in recent years and will continue to until something is done to stop them. Although the police stopping this planned attack doesn't put a complete stop to school shootings, I think it's definitely a step in the right direction.

  1. This is sad, but then suddenly very fortunate. Cyber bulling is not what it used to be. Instead of saying how ugly someone is, we have proceeded to threatening people. I'm glad that the police were able to catch this one, but we need to have more people monitoring the social media accounts for threats like these.
