Killings and Witches
As recently as August of 2015, we are still trying to blame witches for murder. Halloween is the traditional day of witches and goblins and children all around the world celebrate with trading candy for vocals of tricks or treats. We confuse different religions that we are not familiar with as the culprit for causing people to kill each other, when in fact is merely our ignorance of the particulars of a religion that we confuse. Salam witch trials come to mind when I read this article of how a mother and her two sons were killed. The sheriff’s office in their town was quick to blame a religion of Wiccan as to why the offense happened and that it happened on the night of a blue moon. Only later to have to change their statement that the family in fact died approximately three days before the bodies were discovered. The sheriff’s office tried to lay blame upon a group of people because of their religious beliefs even when they did not understand it to begin with. The worship of Satan is not part of the Wiccan religion and yet the sheriff’s department felt that the position of the bodies that were discovered was the work of a Satan worshiping religious cult. Even though the murders have not been solved, they will probably have to remove all thoughts that some Satan worshiping group committed the crime.
Analysis:
Benjamin Radford wrote this article in August of 2015 as a focus to have the public realize that just because a religious group is different, does not mean it is a devil worshiping and people-killing group of people. This was a first person article giving some researched facts that Radford found important to show that the sheriff’s office made fools out of themselves.
This article continues to give light as to how much controversy grows as organizations try to find peace and make sense of murders or robberies by blaming religion as its culprit.
I consider myself to be among the uneducated percentage of people who do not know information about religions that do not follow the traditional forms of Christianity and are pretty low key.
As I reflect back to the sermon that I heard just this last Sunday from my pastor, I can see that religion will always be a part of how we choose to look at crime. We believe that Satan is the root of all evil and that God does not allow people to commit crimes against each other, but that a person’s belief guides their souls. If a person does not have a strong belief in God, then Satan can creep in and take control of your soul and cause his will to be done through you. All of this happens when all you have to do is trust in the Lord and surrender to Gods calling.
