A 4 year old girl was killed in the back seat of her dad's car when another driver shot her window in a senseless fit of road rage.
We point our fingers at drunk drivers when automobile accidents occur, but we should start taking angry drivers into account, too. Driving in an intense emotional state is as serious of an impairment as intoxication is. In this case, it was fatal.
The article makes an interesting point. Americans obsess over incomparable issues like nutrition while ignoring the bigger problems that happen right outside. But more people die each year from car accidents than from consuming food with incorrect labels. Also, the article mentions how normal road rage seems to be socially. People are more comfortable acting outrageously while they are behind the wheel like how they do behind a screen on social media.
What discussion does this event raise? Is it primarily a traffic laws issue? What about gun control? Or mental health? And how do we prevent it from happening again?
This is crazy, some people are just out of control. Why do people get so mad on the road?
ReplyDeleteThat is insanely horrific. Sometimes we joke about road rage, but it is a really serious problem. I just finished the in class portion of Driver's Ed and wow. Half the class was dedicated to safe driving and a major part of that was road rage... I don't know. We have to figure out a way to calm people down or get them off the road, but that's a lot easier said than done.

ReplyDeleteRoad rage is a serious problem, and i think we forget that. People make jokes that make it seem less serious than it really is. I hate to hear that so many occurences happen every year. I wish we could do something to stop it. That little girl did nothing to deserve what happened to her and nor did her family.
