Darby McMahon Pd#9 China and UK show signs of a new "special" relationship

China's President Xi Jinping visited London this week on a four day trip where he addressed UK's Parliament, met with the Royal Family, celebrated a gun salute and stayed in Buckingham Palace. He was welcomed with open arms by London, and Prime Minister David Cameron said the visit would mark a "golden era" between the two. This was in much contrast to Xi's September visit to the US. British politicians will have to work hard to manage an indelicate moment in US and UK's relationship. The UK is hoping to establish a better economic relationship with China and open up new topics with them. So far China has been very open to British culture, and investing in it. This year Chinese investment in the UK totaled 8.5 billion.

This article was written by Katie Hunt, CNN. I find this article very interesting. I am surprised that The UK and China would become such good "friends". The Uk and China have not always been so close. Hong Kong was a British colony until 1997, and has long dogged relations. And in 2012 tension was high after Cameron met with the Dalai Lama. This trip signifies a willingness to forget the past and start over. Whether The UK's intensions are greedy or pure i am glad to see a new found friendship form between China and The UK.
