Summary:
Two Riverbend High School students (ages 15 and 17) were sent to a juvenile detention center this past week due to alleged threats made by the individuals to commit a mass murder at their school. This threat was later verified when Virginia Officials investigated the students' households and found that they had access to firearms. Although police didn't release their names, the two teenage Virginia males continue to be held in custody.
Analysis:
Gun violence, especially teenage gun violence, has become way too reoccurring recently and I thoroughly blame the too-lax gun laws. I support the fact that people want the right to carry and posses guns, however it is becoming way to easy for the wrong hands to get a hold of them. Assuming that the guns found in the households of these teenage boys were their parents, I do believe it should be especially harder for people of households to purchase guns. I personally believe that it would be smart to take steps further than just background checks; If a person of a family is looking to get a gun, an assessment on the family should be done to ensure that it is safe for a gun to be in that household. I also do feel like guns should be always concealed in a safe where other family members don't know the code, or somewhere where it will stay hidden at all times. This whole issue is connected to the Second Amendment, however changes may need to be made to it regarding modern times.

definitley agree that teen gun violence has happened one too many times. If the police hadn't found the firearms or nobdy spoke up we could've had yet another tragic school shooting. Maybe we need to rethink our gun rules

ReplyDeleteI am so glad this incident was stopped before anyone got hurt.
I don't know about family checks, but it should be mandated that all guns are kept in locked safes and in every way kept out of access from children/teenagers (especially the ones who have not gone through any kind of gun/safety education). It's pretty terrifying to think that school shootings have become so common over the past two decades.
