Californians Nag and Save Water by Vern Blossfeld
Summary: Californians cut water usage by more than 31 percent in July, and state officials accredited this to thousands of warnings and penalties they had issued to citizens for overuse of water. But the most effective at getting people to cut down have been the people themselves; moms, dads, co-workers, neighbors, etc. A good lecture after a faucet is left running or a stern talking to by a neighbor about your lawn sprinklers is way worse than the guilt within.
Analysis: It's been a joke recently to mention "We're in a drought!" when someone is wasting water, but droughts really are a serious issue! Historically they've been responsible for mass dehydration related deaths. It's funny that what's working to get people to cut down on their water usage is to just nag them, though. The "domestic water police" sound annoying, but also very necessary. Hopefully this trend continues, and water usage is cut down even more!!
