Summary:
On Saturday The Dallas area was hit with more than a foot of rain, which has brought the threat of flooding to the area. These heavy rainfalls and storms are caused by a stalled cold front that was pushed forward by Hurricane Patricia, which hit the western coast of Mexico. Although the rain was weakening on Saturday, officials are still concerned about the fast moving hurricane, heading inland, which could cause more thunderstorms to move into Texas. Just to show the extent of how much rain has fallen, a Union Pacific train was capsized, near Corsicana, due to the raging waters. Also many roads and highways have been closed due to high waters in the Dallas area. Although this, much needed, rain has quenched the drought Texas received over the summer, many are concerned that all of this rain is becoming a problem.
Analysis:
I see this incident as something we cant really control, but more or less have to make the best of it. For starters the Hurricane Patricia that hit the Western coast of Mexico on Friday, is historic in itself, as being the strongest hurricane ever recorded in the Western Hemisphere. Although the hurricane hit so far away, it was so powerful that it sent a burst of moist air into Texas which has caused this outbreak of storms. This also pertains to history, because as we have seen many times in the past that parts of Texas and Dallas are proned to flooding which is why I believe we need to start fixing parts that tend to flood easily so that we may regulate any flooding that happens in the future.
