Madi Thoele, 4th Period: School Shooting Conspirators Caught

Summary: Police in Spotsylvania County, Virginia stopped a planned school shooting. It was announced at a news conference Saturday, October 24th, that two Riverbend High School students (their names are not released) were charged with conspiracy to commit murder and are being held at a juvenile detention center. County Commonwealth Attorney Bill Neely said that their plan was to phone in a bomb threat and then shoot students and teachers as they evacuated the building. A School Resource Officer arrested and initially charged the first student, a 17-year-old male, on October 12th for threatening violence over social media. An investigation showed the second student, a 15-year-old male, was also planning with him. He was arrested on Friday, October 23rd.  The police found their social media pages that showed evidence of the 2 males plotting an attack. Spotsylvania Sheriff spokesman Capt. Jeffery Pearce said that the students had access to the guns they planned to use. Nobody else is believed to be involved.
Analysis: The author, Andreas Preuss, posted this article on Sunday, October 25th. This article does not seem biased because there is nothing to be biased about for this event. School shootings have gotten extremely out of hand since the Sandy Hook shooting of 2012. As of October 9th, 2015, there have been 144 shootings on school grounds in the U.S. This event reminds me of the Battle of Saratoga in 1777. The Spotsylvania County police can represent the U.S. Militia. They defeated the British before they could cause too much harm, just like the police caught the 2 boys before they could carry out their plot. This battle was also the major turning point of America's fight for independence, and although this current event hasn't stopped school shootings from happening, it's still a major step towards solving the issue.
