Green is the New Black Katie Schell (flex)

original: updated Oct. 23, 2015 written by- Stephen Bohm and Annika Skoglund

Over the past couple of years more and more companies have become aware of the need to "be green". A lot of the times companies feel pressure from the outside to go green: more public appeal, saving money, better publicity etc. but recently some major corporations (Nudie Jeans, Patagonia, Lush, Interface) have taken a real interest in helping the environment. Patagonia gives 1% percent of its sales "to support environmental organizations around the world", Nudie Jeans recycles, repairs, and reuses its denim products as well as using organic cotton in the first place to make them, Interface plans to reach its goal of using renewable resources to fuel 100% of their energy needs by 2020. All around the world companies are starting to take notice of how run down and tired our earth is, they see it and they are taking a stand.
I find it so important to take a step back and look at the impact we are having on the earth. Although we have accomplished some incredible things we have also soiled a perfectly beautiful planet by our pollution and smog. It's hard to make a difference when you are just one small person. But now that more groups of large important people are willing to stand by you and are willing to help you reach your goal, I think that we have a real chance at turning the negative affects that we have caused on earth around. It's hard to say where all this pollution began: the material revolution, the industrial revolution, or any other large leap we have made in manufacturing. Reversing the affects we have had on earth is not an easy task, but I believe that if enough people pitch in to clean earth up, we can make her beautiful again.

  1. I believe that what these businesses are doing is not only helping their sales, but its setting an example for everyone who looks up to these business and may help persuade many others to go green too.

  2. I totally agree with Nick! Because all of these well-known national companies are taking initiative to be green it is inspiring their customers to do the same. Even though doing your part helps, it really takes a bigger voice, such as a popular corporation to start the trend and reach a bigger audience.

  3. I also agree, a lot of people will jump on the bandwagon of going green because it helps the planet and will increase their sales/likeability by the public. Once some people make this change, more and more people will start to follow.
