Man Confesses to Road Rage Killing of 4 Year-Old Girl--Rebecca Brandt 4th Period

Tuesday afternoon, 4 year-old Lily Garcia was declared dead in an Albuquerque hospital. She was killed by 32 year-old Tony Torrez who shot her in the head. Lily's father, Alan Garcia was trying to exit the highway in his red pick-up truck with son Isaac and daughter Lily in the back seat when Torrez crossed two lanes of traffic and blocked him. Garcia cussed at Torrez and Torrez pulled up right next to Garcia. Torrez later told a friend that the red truck (Garcia's) tried to run him off the road. However, Garcia's story is that as he drove away, he heard two gun shots. The other car pulled up right next to his pick up truck, shot a 3rd time, and as Garcia stepped on his breaks, Torrez shot a 4th time and then sped away. Garcia then had to pull over and tend to Lily, who was bleeding. By the time help arrived, Lily's eyes were already dilated a great amount. Later that day, after Torrez was taken into custody, he confessed to killing the 4 year-old. Lily's family told the police that they did not know Torrez in any way. Police Chief Gordon Eden said "to have your child in your hands in such circumstances is going to live with the father for the rest of his life."

It is absolutely terrifying and horrible that someone would take the life of an innocent child that easily. Many have made it seem like it is the father's fault, saying that the father triggered Torrez's "rampage", however if I were in that position and someone cut me off almost causing a wreck with my children in the back seat, I would be extremely angry also. He had no idea that Torrez was going to take out his gun and start shooting. This really just shows how the morals of some people in the world have not improved at all over time. They may even be getting worse. I wish that innocent people, like Lily, did not have to die for these people. Rest in peace, Lily.

  1. This horrible incident just goes to show that now days you never know what someone would do, even to a child. This just goes to show that humans are becoming more evil and ruthless.

  2. It's especially awful to hear this story knowing that she was just an innocent little girl who did nothing wrong. Torrez did not channel his anger well and took it out on his daughter just to get to Garcia.

  3. It is crazy the extremes people go to to prove a point. This was completely unnecessary and the poor little girl had to suffer the consequences.

  4. Of course it's not the dad's fault. Bad driving doesn't give someone permission to someone to shoot their daughter.
