"Kelly Gissendaner was convicted of murder for persuading
her lover to kill her husband in 1997. She became Georgia's first
female prisoner to be executed in 70 years."
Let’s begin with the fact that Gissendaner herself did not
physically murder her husband although she did plan it, she hired someone else
to do the job. That someone (Greg Owen), is receiving life in prison will Kelly
got the death penalty. Hardly fair considering that he committed the acts of
stabbing Douglas Gissendaner in the neck and back. I felt as if they both should have received the same penalty either both death, or both life sentence.
Her family have been trying to prolong and/or stop the
process. Kelly death was postponed twice once due to weather and the other due to “cloudy” lethal injections….now I don’t know your faith, but those were two events that played in her favor. Two times for her, her family, and her lawyer to get it together and continue to try and change her verdict. They feel as if she has changed, but isn’t that what they all say.
Many people who have been incarcerated are able to lessen their sentence on the
terms of good behavior. Maybe it was an act. What were her motives, why did she
kill him? The answers to the questions could justify the verdict for giving her
the death penalty and why even Pope Francis was ignored.
