Emily Miller "Lost at Sea: El Faro ship with 33 people missing in Hurricane Joaquin"

A cargo ship with 28 Americans on board went missing in Hurricane Joaquin. For 36 hours, there hasn't been any communication with the ship. The US Coast Guard sent planes to go look for it in the Bahamas, but the storm has made it difficult for them to see. The last contact that was made with the ship was on early Thursday morning when the captain reported to be in distress.

It scares me that the most advanced vehicles are vulnerable to destruction by weather. I can't imagine how it would feel to be on a plane or a boat that's going down. In this time, we are used to the comfort and safety of travel. But what about the times when air/water crafts weren't this advanced? It makes me consider the bravery of people like Christopher Columbus or Ferdinand Magellan. People who crossed an ocean knowing that they might not make it to the place they're headed for. Transportation to the New World was unknown to them, and they weren't familiar with the path like ship captains are today.
