Chris Mintz, Oregon Shooting Hero - Olivia Browne (Period 6)
During the Oregon Shooting, Chris Mintz, age 30, put himself in the way of the shooter to protect others and was shot seven times. This occurred on his sons birthday. He is currently in recovery after the traumatic experience. His heroism is being honored by many on social media and his name is being mentioned more than the shooters.
Analysis: The author is Don Melvin and he appears to be a non-biased party reporting on the tragic events. This article was published a few days after the event, giving the public some time to gather the facts and create opinions on the matter. I did not know much about the shooting but, I am overjoyed at the act of heroism of Mintz as well as the overwhelming support he has received from the public. This article was written for the general public to inform them of a triumphant story in the wake of tragedy. This article is important because it show how enduring the human sense of protection is.
