At Synod Opening Pope Frances Reminds Everyone That The Catholic Church Is Against Gay Marriage By Philip Pullella (Zoe Roberts, 3rd Period)

Summary: Pope Frances opened a three week gathering to celebrate and showcase love and understanding towards all my discussing the fact that the catholic church is still against gay marriage
The night before the gathering the Vatican had dismissed a polish minister after he came out as gay and stated that the catholic church's attitude toward and teachings of homosexuality must change. Pope Frances talked about the definition of marriage being between a man and a woman and how sexuality is determined by God. Though Pope Frances did say that the Church must stay open to those who are, "led the wrong way" so to speak, and help them towards God.

Analysis: While Pope Frances is one of the most down to Earth Popes in a long while it is no surprise to me that he is keeping his idea of marriage strictly between a man and a woman. In the end his opinions became very close to conversion therapy support which scared the hell out of me to be honest. Even though gay marriage is legal in the U.S. and several countries in Europe, homophobia is still a problem. It is silly to think that this bias could have been solved by a simple law. Over a century ago women got the right to vote, yet sexism still exists today, in the 1950's-1960's we had the Civil Rights movement yet racism is still rampant today, the same sadly is going to be true for homophobia. We must face the facts.
