Southern Arizona takes the First Step // Uriel Cruz, Period 6

 // Shout-out to everyone who's using my title format. What's good? \\

Interstate 19 links Tucson, AZ to Mexico. The interstate is 100 km long and has been measured in kilometers for quite a while; it's America's only interstate that uses the metric system. It was one of the interstates used in a test by the federal government to see if America was ready to convert to the metric system. When I said the interstate had been using the metric system for quite a while, I really meant quite a while. The signs need to be replaced now since they aren't reflective enough at night for drivers to see. Arizona's Department of Transportation will be changing these signs to be more reflective in the near future, of course.
  Since it's been nearly 40 years since the signs were first changed, people may have grown accustomed to the metric system. Since it's time to change the signs, the ADT asked the local communities if they'd prefer to have the signs in metric or imperial measurements. The locals said they liked the metric system so those new signs will most likely stay in the same system.

This is a big step for America. We're finally starting to accept foreign ways intertwining with ours. Except for the UK's steering wheel and road switch, that's really lame and unnecessary, let's not do that. Sweden tried switching from left to right once and it was madness, I don't know how the UK does it. I'm hoping more things like the metric system are integrated into American culture. I'm fine with us being the only English speaking country to pronounce 'z' like zee and not 'Zedd.' If he starts making good songs again then I may consider saying 'zedd' every once in a while when spelling words with the letter z in them. Maybe being unique is a good thing, but it wouldn't hurt to try to broaden up the horizons. Unless I'm driving to those horizons on the left side, I'm not switching lanes, UK. You can't make me.
