Nicholas Godfrey Period 8: Amazon sues fake reviewers

Summary: Have you ever been on Amazon and checked the reviews to make sure that the product is trustworthy and worth the cost? We all have. There is a website out there called Fiverr that is paying people to go give 5 star ratings to products on Amazon. Amazon is now filing a lawsuit not against the website, but the users that have been posting fake reviews.

Analysis: I find it shocking that people are going and posting fake reviews to get a couple bucks. Its kind of smart, but it seems like a waste of time. These people have had to keep using multiple accounts to try not to be tracked. If they knew that what they were doing was illegal and that it would only make them a couple dollars, then why wouldn't they go get a job that payed them more for less work and was legal? This bribery could have affected so many purchases when these people could've just wasted their money on useless products. This is like what the French wanted in the XYZ affair. They wanted to be payed before they could start negotiations. I know that this is a little bit of a stretch but it shows people's greed for money.

  1. I agree that even though it was smart of them to come up with this idea, if they are only paying people. couple of bucks then it really is a waste of time going through all of this, especially if it's not even legal. These people should get jobs.

  2. its a smart way for people to make money easily but its kind of a waste time. instead of sitting at home and surfing the web writing fake reviews. maybe a job would be a good addition to their future .

  3. Do you know how much money? And also, why would the website want other products to do well?
