"Justin Trudeau, Son of a Canadian Leader, Follows His Own Path to Power" By Lisl Wangermann 1st Period

Ian Austen's article "Justin Trudeau, Son of a Canadian Leader, Follows His Own Path to Power," was published by the New York Times on October 20, 2015. Canada recently had an important election, made common knowledge by John Oliver's recent segment on it. In the end, the Liberal party reigned victorious and Justin Trudeau was named Prime Minister. His father Pierre Trudeau was Prime Minister for 15 years starting in 1968. But the youngest Trudeau has not necessarily followed in his fathers footsteps. He did not initially start perusing politics, and did not begin until after his father's death. His political advisors are of no relation to his fathers and his tendency towards off the cuff remarks is unique and refreshing.

This unconventional political dynasty reminds me of some of the most famous political families in United States. John Adams, the second president, and John Quincy Adams, his son and future president, are the first names that come to mind. The Roosevelt family followed suit. More recently, the Bushes came to power. And of course, one cannot talk about political dynasties without mentioning the Kennedys, who are one of the most beloved American families in history.
