Manon McCollum -- Alabama Senate Race, Unlikely Nail-Biter, Races to Finish Line

Alabama Senate Race, Unlikely Nail-Biter, Races to Finish Line

As the Alabama senate election grows nearer and nearer, it is still unclear whether Roy Moore or Doug Jones will pull ahead, amidst mounting sexual assault charges and increasing pressure from both sides to put country over party.

This election, at one time written off as a lock-in for the GOP, has now become a contentious battle for the very soul of the republican party. At this time, it can be safely said that Roy Moore has committed some form of sexual misconduct, and has most likely had sexual relations with children. He has completely denied these allegations; a strategy which has worked well.

Despite overwhelming evidence, President Trump has chosen to fully endorse Roy Moore, and his base has seen this as making it acceptable to vote for him. Moore is polling strongly in rural Republican strongholds on the border, but Jones is making strides to get suburban republicans disgusted my Moore's actions.

Whatever the polls may say, voter turnout is generally low, and it remains to be seen if the voters of alabama will choose basic morals over party allegiance.

  1. It's mind boggling that peoples political affiliations can be stronger than that of basic morality & humanity. It can provide a wonderful example of the hypocrisy existing in the American Government System.

  2. It's interesting how political disputes can become so impactful on relations as it is showing the lack of unity within our government.

  3. I’m so glad that people were able to pull together and keep a pedophile out of office, it gives me hope for the future.
