Sarah Childs- College student killed at track and field event

Summary: An Illinois college student is dead after being hit during a hammer throw event, officials said. Wheaton College's Ethan Roser, 19, a freshman transfer student from Cincinnati, Ohio died after being accidentally struck with a hammer Saturday. He had been volunteering at a track and field competition on the campus in suburban Chicago. Roser was treated by paramedics at the scene and transported to a local hospital, where he died, the statement said. In the track and field hammer event, athletes throw a metal ball that's attached to a steel wire. The thrower usually makes several spins before releasing the ball which can weigh between 16 and 8 pounds. It's not known whether Roser was volunteering at the hammer throw or at a nearby event. "We ask people to pray for Ethan's family, his friends, and our campus community," Wheaton College President Philip Ryken said.
Analysis: This article was published by Madison Park from CNN on April 24, 2017. She uses a third person point of view to convey an unbiased point of view. Additionally, I had absolutely no preview knowledge of this topic, so this article made me realize how important our safety restrictions are. This article was written for any citizen of the United States as a warning of what might come. It was published for an informative purpose of enabling the people to learn more about how important our safety restrictions. This entire article could link directly to the Shirtwaist Fire Incident where so many people died and created many more restrictions to help keep people safe. We can look at this current incident for evidence that we need many more restrictions.

  2. It is so tragic that this could happen, my heart goes out to the deceased family as well as the person that threw the ball. I'm sure more safety precautions will be taken throughout the country to prevent this from ever happening again.
