Madison Harvey - Oldest Person in the World Passed Away

Summary- The last person known to be born in the 1800's has passed away.  Emma Morano was 117 years old, she was born on November 29, 1899 and had held the Guinness World Record titles for the oldest living person and oldest living woman in the world.  She was announced as the oldest living female in 2016.  Emma credited her longevity to ending her abusive marriage, and a diet of raw eggs and cookies.  She separated from her husband in 1938 and said "I didn't want to be dominated by anyone."  Her doctor said, despite her age, she loved loved cookies like a child and she often hid them under her pillow so no one would eat them.  Emma was five years younger than the oldest person ever which was Jeanne Calment who passed away at the age of 122.  Guiness World Records said in a statement that after reviewing evidence it will announce a new oldest person in the world on it's website.

Analysis- This article was written by Faith Carimi with CNN to inform the public of the passing of the last person born in the 1800's.  This is an amazing accomplishment to have lived for so long and to think about everything she has lived through.  Just think about how long she has lived, she was born before the Wright Brothers' first flight, the vacuum cleaner, the air conditioner, the electric washing machine, radio broadcasting and even the tea bag which was invented in 1904.  Because she was born in the 1800s it reminds me of the Civil War which she certainly knew many people that fought in the war which ended in 1865, it could have been her father or grandfather but I'm sure she heard first hand about it.

  1. It is incredible that someone was alive to witness so much history. It makes me wonder how much we will get to witness in our life times, even if we don't live to 117!

  2. The thought of how many lives she touched and people she encountered during her life is inspiring. The memories people have of her seem to be endearing and nostalgic.
