Last Killer Whale born at SeaWorld- Abbey Winiger

SUMMARY- A killer whale calf was born at Sea World San Antonio, TX, on Wednesday marking the last one born in the captivity of the park. SeaWorld announced last year that they were choosing to end their killer whale breeding program. The mother of the new whale, Takara, was pregnant when the announcement was made. Marking her as the last female to give birth to a killer whale. Many people have speculated that the ending of the breeding was due to "Blackfish", a 2013 documentary centered around the corruption of care of whales at SeaWorld.

ANALYSIS/SYNTHESIS- This article was published by CNN on Thursday, April 20th. CNN is a reliable source with US and global news. The purpose of this article was to inform readers of the news of the killer calf, and share that this is the last one to be born within SeaWorld. Prior to reading this article I had hear of the scrutiny SeaWorld was under, but did not know about the ending of the breeding process for this species. It is very sad to think that SeaWorld has to stop this program because of how it was ran. I hope that all of the animals are safe and happy, and that the new calf sparks something new for SeaWorld.

  2. The system was horrible, and captivity of these animals is awful and I hope they don't touch another whale again.
